Debra Kelly, Ph.D., R.N., an assistant professor in biobehavioral nursing science, has been selected by the American Academy of Nursing for the 2019 class of Academy fellows. The class includes 231 highly distinguished nurse leaders from around the world. Kelly is recognized by the National League for Nursing as a certified nursing instructor.

Debra Lyon, Ph.D., R.N., executive associate dean and the Thomas M. and Irene B. Kirbo Endowed Chair, has been named the incoming editor of the Oncology Nursing Society’s Oncology Nursing Forum. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and serves as the co-chair of its genetic nursing and health care expert panel.

Somnath Datta, Ph.D., a professor in the department of biostatistics, is co-author on an article that received the 2019 Best Theoretical Paper award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Statistical Advisory Group. The publication appeared in the journal Statistics in Medicine in 2018.

Duane A. Mitchell, M.D., Ph.D., was appointed as director of the UF Clinical and Translational Science Institute, assistant vice president for research, and associate dean for translational science and clinical research.
Wesley E. Bolch, Ph.D.
Wesley E. Bolch, Ph.D., a professor in the UF Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering’s department of biomedical engineering, is one of five winners of the 2019-2020 Doctoral Dissertation Advisor/Mentoring Award. In an effort to continue to promote doctoral studies and to recognize excellence in doctoral student mentoring by our faculty, awards are given each year to at least five faculty doctoral advisors selected on a competitive basis.

Alison Ivey, R.N., MS, OCN, CCRP, was recently appointed co-chair of the NRG Clinical Trials Nurse (CTN) Subcommittee. The CTN Subcommittee is an advisory/working committee provided for under the NRG Oncology Protocol Support Committee to facilitate the goals and provide support with quality control of protocol-related activities, education and training of NRG Oncology members on relevant topics and mentorship.

Maryam Rahman, M.D., M.S., FAANS, was awarded the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) Discovery Grant for her project titled “A Vaccine Strategy to Overcome Treatment Induced Immunosuppression in Glioma.” The ABTA Discovery Grant is a one-year grant for high risk, high impact research with the potential to change current diagnostic or treatment models.

The Climb for Cancer Foundation has been awarded the Best of Gainesville Award in the healthcare category for 2020.

To celebrate Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, the UF Health Cancer Center hosted a virtual awareness event, which included a quiz, giveaways and a photo contest wherein votes were cast to choose a favorite team for #DressinBlue day. The winners were:
