The UF Health Web Services team recently did a soft launch of their new UF Health Directory, which is active but still in beta. The director of UF Health Web Services recently gave the communications team a sneak peak of this exciting new tool, and answered some of our pressing questions:
Q: What is the UF Health Directory?
A: The UF Health Web Directory is a new profile management tool for UF Health faculty, staff and students. It contains profile information on all UF Health-related persons, regardless of their location or affiliation. This includes faculty, staff and students for UF, as well as staff at UF Health Shands (and related hospitals), and UF Health Jacksonville. It is intended to be an internal tool — although it can be viewed by members of the public if they are directed to it (with additional login capabilities to protect privacy).
Q: What is the purpose of the UF Health Directory?
A: The UF Health directory provides powerful search capabilities for people within the UF Health system. You can search by someone’s name or enter a topic/keyword. When searching for a topic (e.g. “prostate cancer”) the directory now allows you to choose between clinician or researcher results — and then narrow those results using a variety of fields. More importantly, the UF Health directory also allows individuals to update their own profile information — which is notable because it feeds directly into their profiles on UFHealth.org. So if you have a profile on UFHealth.org, you can update that content by updating your UF Health Directory profile!
Q: Does updating my UF Health Directory profile also update my UF College or Department profile?
A: Not currently, but that is the next planned step. The UF Health Web Services team intends to complete and activate the new system wide website design (Apollo 2) before integrating the UF Health Directory in the same way, so that could take six months to a year to complete. In the meantime, please update your UF profile by communicating with your department contact per usual; if you don’t know who that is, please email Web Services here.
Q: Why is there an option to log into the UF Health Directory?
A: You cannot see a person’s complete profile unless you are logged in; certain information is therefore not publicly accessible. You also can log in to update your own profile.
Q: I see the grants and publications sections are automatically being streamed in from another source. How does that work?
A: Yes, this is a much more efficient way to keep this information up to date. However, as this is still in beta, please note that it’s possible that not all your publications or grants will be listed — please be patient. The publication data is being streamed in from your VIVO account (also worth updating!) and grants are being streamed in Research Office’s UFirst system, so the data should be highly accurate.
